Audiobook or book – Which One is Best

Audiobook or book - Which One is Best

As exciting trips do not happen every day and the most exciting ones carry too much risk of a one-way trip, I like to use the stories of others in such situations. Both real and fictional stories.

That’s why I enjoy watching James Bond and reading what Wilbur Smith or Elżbieta Cherezińska will write.

Basically, I should say I watched and read. Recently, with regret, I have noticed that time is not made of rubber and watching movies forces either a later sleep (and as we know from this LINK entry  , it is an unfavorable phenomenon) or giving up other important matters, such as physical development (about which here:  LINK ) .

Reading Wilbur is even harder. After all, reading is reading, which is theoretically a noble activity. The problem is that these readings, apart from a faster heartbeat, do not bring much to life.

So I leave these pleasures for special occasions (e.g. holiday season) and on a daily basis I redirect my attention to areas that have a significant impact on my life.

I invite you to the series of entries on valuable reading ( LINK )

Once we have an interesting reading selected, another challenge appears – how and when to read it actively?

I will deal with this “how” a bit later – in a separate entry.

What is left to us about when?

What to do when we do not have enough time to read what is waiting for us on the reading list (which is basically always)?

There are several options. I like 2 of them. So in turn.

Shortcuts

It is extremely rare that we are the first historical readers of a given reading. Most often, someone has already read it before us. Some of these readers are so nice that they compose a few minutes’ studies based on the best books. We can learn about the main premises of the book.

Yes, these are highly generalized conclusions, but in my opinion we will not learn more from such a short form.

See an example of Micheal Gerber’s “The Entrepreneurship Myth”

Audiobooks

An increasingly popular form of learning content. Our parents used to read us to sleep, today famous actors or book authors record their works in the form of a radio play.

This is great for me. We can take advantage of every unproductive moment of the day. You are driving your car – listen to the audiobook, cleaning up – listen to the audiobook, you are on a walk with your dog – listen to the audiobook. You can probably mention more such moments. You can fill each of them with valuable content.

It is true that most of the people I met derive less benefit from audiobooks than from paper books. More content escapes them.

I admit that I have exactly the same.

Nevertheless, this content never escapes 100%. If even 10% of the knowledge is left, it is still much more than will be left from listening to the next Sławomir hit or a scratch of standupers.

So before you start listening to silly broadcasts or any other Sławomir in your car again, or before you mindlessly scroll through the Facebook feed on the bus – check out  Storytel  or  Audible  and listen to something valuable.
