Would You Take Him to Work

Would You Take Him to Work

Every now and then I check the Fortune 500 list  and every time I look for those mythical one-man businesses, those Johns or other innych , because we know very
So far I have not found any there. Somehow nobody pushes himself to the top.
We’ve known for some time that you won’t achieve too much yourself – I’ve already written about it in the context of Dr. Wong and MOC seminars . However, we did not think too much about what the characteristics of the people we would like to work with are.
So let’s briefly prepare such a list.

Professional

This is the first thing that recruiters put pressure on.
“Person with XYZ skills, ABC experience, wanted for position 123”.
The question is whether this professionalism is really crucial? Is it better to take an experienced worker and put him in the deep end, or maybe take a less experienced worker and teach him everything – bring him up?
An attempt to answer this question was made by Maciek in his entry  “Raise an employee or take professionals?”  Is this only the correct reasoning? Probably not

Involved

Let’s move a bit to the character of this employee. I have not yet met someone who would like to hire a person who is apathetic, rude and always complaining. However, it may also be the case that I move in a certain closed environment and in fact such people are in demand.
However, I will make the thesis that it is not so and the demand for singing on Monday morning the following song is negligible 😉

Taken over

I admit that I love this feature. Coming back to Polish proverbs – this feature is perfectly reflected by the following:
I do not mean, however, the reluctance to explain the intricacies of any challenge. It is clear that new, difficult or simply issues in the world requiring the cooperation of many people need to be explained. And in such a way that there is no doubt what to do. That’s the boss’s job.
Nevertheless, situations such as the one described earlier on the blog , or even the famous “I don’t know” in some circles as the answer to most questions about the progress of the project, cause the boss to increase pressure uncontrollably. As we well know, it is detrimental to health and we try to avoid such situations

Forward

Some like to be late. It is even said to be a cultural feature in some nations. So be it.
Only that with a relaxed approach to deadlines we will not achieve much. We will arrive at 9:27 am – our interlocutor has almost half an hour in the back. Is that a lot? Do we express our respect for the interlocutor and his time?
Let’s leave the meetings for a while – meetings are a piece of cake. Anyway, we try to avoid them in order to increase the effectiveness of our activities, right?
Let’s take the deadlines for order fulfillment on the wallpaper.
We agree that something will be ready in a week and… we are not ready for the next two.
It doesn’t matter that someone is waiting – after all, in two weeks he will still be waiting, right?
The classic has worked on it before
Importantly – in addition to treating the client lightly (after all, we agreed differently than we do), we also expose our own company to losses. After all, there will be contractual penalties, loss of image and (which we often forget) delay in paid payments.

Focused

Do you know such a view? One browser window is facebook, the second is onet, the third is twitter and the fifteenth is a chat with friends. In addition, a cell that is constantly ringing, beeping and shining. Somewhere in the meantime it is worth fulfilling the obligations already undertaken.
Multitasking – not only bad is also stupid. Neither Goldratt nor anyone in their right mind who wants to achieve anything meaningful can digest it.

Busy

Here I will only quote a friend who asked me for help in finding a job some time ago. The following quote is an answer to my question about the personality traits of a potential employee.
Here’s what the answer looked like.
It so happens that we are actually looking for people who want to work. And that is sometimes hard.

Other

What else do you think is important for people hiring?
And what interests me even more – in the context of the above considerations and your own thoughts, would you hire… yourself?
